Titans Talk - Home for all things Tennessee Titans

Gonna be tough with 100 carries each.

team is set up for and has the coaching for Levis to throw 1K passes.
You love stats lol...has any team ever had 2 top 5 rushers?

Pollard had 252 carries last year for 1005 yds

Last season's #5 spot was 1049 yds

There has been a handful of times where a team had 2 RB reach 1K.
Falcons/Ratbirds are kind of excluded since Vick and LJ were 1 of the 2 1K rushers.

1972 Dolphins
Mercury Morris - 1000 (10th) was #1 in TD
Larry Csonka - 1117 (4th)

1985 Browns
Earnest Byner - 1002 (16th)
Kevin Mack - 1104 (10th)

2008 NYG
Brandon Jacobs - 1089 (11th) #3 TD
Derrick Ward - 1025 (15th)

2009 Panthers
Jonathan Stewart - 1133 (9th)
deangelo Williams - 1117 (13th)

those are just the two 1K RB seasons.
I’d have to do a deeper dive to see about a match where 1 or both didn’t reach 1K.
I can argue 2008 Titans was pretty good CJ2K 1200 yds/ 9TD and Lendale White 700 yds/ 15 TD as an example.

2 top 10 rushers is a serious rarity but you can see the 1972 Dolphins did get it.

Two of those were old 2-back systems, an offensive style that hasn't existed in decades, other than the early 2000s when Tampa did it with Mike Alstott and Warrick Dunn.

For the youngins, that was a system where the fullback was more like a modern day tailback who blocked sometimes. Both backs would be on the field for the majority of plays.

Thanks for looking into that.

I guess it's possible but that would be 480-500 rushing attempts probably

Alstott was a true FB that is almost dead but had the talent to carry the ball.
The 2 never reached 1K in the same season but separately both were capable any year.

lorenzo Neal may be the best FB I watched but he couldn’t carry the ball or really get used in the passing game.
Guys like Juscyk (however it’s spelled) may not be as good a blocker as Neal but has what NFL teams need today in versatility.

Just a different game

dolphins 403 carries
Browns 466 carries
NYG 401 carries
Panthers 437 carries

if it matters, dolphins won the SB, browns and NYG lost in the divisional round, Panthers missed the playoffs. Almost a slow testament to how that kind of game has changed.

Neal was a monster blocker, never should've gotten rid of him

I remember him trying to replace Neal with another FB (Ahmard hall?) and it was just a failure.
The Marine? I actually liked him. I've always appreciated a good FB. I was actually super excited for when we picked up Coolin Mooney. I thought he was going to be a stud. This dude holds the single season rushing record at army with 1,339 also had a highlight tape of just his blocks. Should have been the next Alstott.
