One thing that has always confused me is why we rarely use toss or sweeps? Get Henry going towards space. I'm assuming it's because of the injuries on the OL, but even last year and when we were healthy it never happened. I do think the success has been more attributed to the talent of the roster than the play calling. Honestly, I still don't like the play calling, we've just had the talent to be successful.
What?! We called way too many tosses this year... the vast majority for negative plays.

People are assuming this interview was already scheduled. It's very possible they just called after the loss took place. Like someone else said, the agent does 99% of work. We'll never know. Also, the fact that you can have 4 in one day or 6 over a weekend, goes to show that you don't really need to prepare that much. It's not like the team is expecting a full team analysis/strategy on the first phone call. I bet its more about your vision, values, and connections. I highly doubt the interview had any effect at all on the game plan or execution.

While there were certainly times this season, Sunday included, that his play calling was frustrating, just be weary of the "grass is always greener" mindset. Someone said, "you can't do worse...". FALSE! Oh you can definitely always do worse. Talent or not, a coordinator is the conductor of the orchestra and you can certainly waste talent (look at our defense for a recent example). If Art does get hired, can we do better with someone else? Maybe. I hope so, but it certainly isn't a guarantee. We could do much worse than having him stick around for another year.

Surely our defensive coaching situation is proof enough that you can do worse...agreed.

he’s not getting fired, he’s getting interviewed by other teams. If he gets a HC offer I’m sure he’ll take it. There’s no option to keep him. If he doesn’t get an offer, I’m sure he’ll be around. Quit acting so nervous about something the team and fans have such little control over.

And quit acting like people are running him out town. He called a crappy game and we lost. Chit happens- gotta own it to get better.

Pshhh hahaha. Impressive misinterpretation and jumping to conclusions. Quit being so defensive and telling people to quit things lol. For the record, I don't think anyone is running him out of town and I'm certainly not nervous if he gets a coaching job. Like I LITERALLY WROTE in the post you quoted, if we do have to replace him, I'm HOPEFUL we get someone better. It certainly is POSSIBLE. That said, there is no guarantee that that's the case. For those claiming: "with this talent you can't do worse..." That's BS. People forget the terrible slew of coordinators we've had or the ones that get fired every year across the NFL. Bad coaching, derails and can ruin talented teams. Sometimes... good coaching... can mask bad talent.

If you're reading everything, you're seeing a lot of people (yourself included) that think he's easily replaceable and pretty much automatically upgradeable. I'm disagreeing with that inaccurate take.

There's also a lot of people here that want to see him gone. Some people (not sure if you're included) are going to be butt hurt if he doesn't get hired and sticks around.

Settle down homie. Don't get your blood pressure up. "Grass isn't always greener..."

so insightful. We could do better we could do worse.

your post just doesn’t really add anything to the discussion- it’s all empty fluff. And you come off as condescending to others who say he can be replaced so nobody needs to hover around scared to try.

Oh thanks Miyagi! I can feel your insight and wisdom really filling the room. We are so blessed to have your input.

If I recall correctly, he was chosen because he was familiar with LaFleur's offense and Vrabel didn't want Mariota to learn another system.

I'm not saying he wasn't qualified but that seemed to be the main reason for his hire at the time.

You can't ignore Smith's success on many early drives this season. You can't ignore his overall production. Many will say it's 99% due to talent but I think his strength is finding weaknesses and exploiting them early in games. Where he failed, IMO, was adjusting against better defenses.

But we all need to remember that Vrabel is involved and we don't know how much influence he has on a game plan, adjustments, etc.

Is @TitanJeff related to art? Why can't you accept that maybe he was a bit distracted considering he was going to have the biggest interviews of his life coming up?

There's nothing wrong with him being distracted, it's just the way of the NFL. But to totally write off him being distracted is silly.

We know Vrabel calls the punts...

Maybe for the same reason you can't accept that MAYBE he wasn't a bit distracted at all and was comfortable in knowing his agent had 6 interviews lined up.

I am not saying he wasn’t distracted. I’m saying it had no bearing on the outcome of the game as others have.

I imagine every coach and player has distractions but professionals don’t allow it to alter their ability to do their jobs.

If you think it did, was Smith only distracted during the game or before or both? Wait. The first drive resulted in a TD so guess it only happened after?

Why for just this game and not every game since rumors started that he was going to be considered for a few HC jobs would he be distracted?

Everyone wants a scapegoat.

yeah, I really dont think Art was sitting up in the box going over his resume instead of watching the defense and calling plays.

Because every team scripts their first drive or 2. That’s why it resulted in a TD.

Has absolutely nothing to do with setting up the interviews. That’s the easiest part of the whole damn thing.

Right. So he wasn’t distracted enough for that not to happen since the Titans took a 10-0 lead. We’re thinking the distraction altered his abilities around the second quarter?

2nd Quarter Distraction Syndrome (2QDS) is real. Don’t let it happen to you. Get the help you need in the 1st Quarter, before it’s too late.

No... he was distracted the whole game but the first drive was successful because he didn’t have to think about what play to call.
