Do I need to write IMHO in front of everything I write? Isn’t it implied that it’s an opinion or my guess? Like it is for most of us. Like the guy saying the Cap will be $183 million. He doesn’t know that. He thinks that.

I disagree with you about Bowen, He may turn out to be a disaster. Hope not. But he wasn’t solely responsible for last seasons problems. Injuries and bad free agent signings had more to do with it. He called plays. That’s it. He was also doing 2 jobs as well. Now he can put all his time into developing a defense and a scheme. I think and have always thought it was bad to not have coordinators. Not having a stand alone coordinator did more to hurt last season from a coaching stand point than who the coach was.

He may have been involved in the robbery but it wasn’t his plan. He was just driving the car and didn’t shoot anyone. Let’s see what he does when it’s his plan. It’s all on him now.

How is that NOT a direct result of "We literally just need to fix our situational defense with more pressure on 3rd downs …….."

I also have no doubt that "the robbery plan" will still be Vrabel's. That is the only explanation as to how Bowen got promoted to begin with.

And yes, you should start with IMHO. You have a way of writing your responses with some level of arrogance and certainty that if it was just an opinion disagreement, you wouldn't be so adamant in retorts.

Yea, I know my writing style leaves something to be desired. I don’t think I am the only one who could do better in that regard. If Im stating a fact typically I have a stat or something. Otherwise 98% of the time it’s just IMHO. Just maybe not so humble. LOL. It’s just debate. I get passionate a lot. I know that.

If the Titans really wanted to they could restructure Tanny, Henry, Lewan, Saffold, Byard and Butler and sign Adoree to a long term deal (with minimum up front), and they could free up more than $50 million in cap space easily.
I’m not saying that’s gonna happen, but the cap isn’t a huge issue. They have a very healthy set of contracts with lots of wiggle room and almost no dead cap lying around.

That’s why I’ve been saying ....

They have a very flexible cap situation now, I don’t see Robinson going to crazy with restructures and kick the can down the road. The downsize to these restructures is that you lessen your cap space in ensuing years. Robinson will most likely restructure some contracts and cut some current guys. Perhaps it was the train wreck of last off season, but I really don’t have much confidence we retain many of our key FA or sign upgrades. I see us filling the roster holes with 2nd and 3rd tier FA and then the draft. After the draft I’ll know whether to feel confident in next season or buy a case of Pepto-bismol.

The Titans are in good shape, They can restructure based on who they sign. If they need to clear up money they can. The Titans can do just about anything what they want, or more importantly what they need to.

They can for this year, my point is, in doing so, you “borrow” money in the ensuing years. If they reduce say, Lewan by 10 mil, they would push that money back into guaranteed money in the upcoming years they do that. The player gets more guaranteed money in those seasons, and frees up cap space in the initial season. However, they will have less wiggle room because of the guarantees. Therefore, you can’t keep restructuring contracts year after year, it’s something to be used sparingly. At some point you as the piper.

Not really.... eventually players retire or get cut. The Cap goes up. Lots of things happen.

However... if we win a Super Bowl now it doesn’t really matter does it. If you are paying the Piper when we are rebuilding and have a new QB on a rookie deal and no Henry then it doesn’t hurt as much.

You are missing the main point here. If you cut a player whose cap number increases, you eat the cap money. This has nothing to do with the Super Bowl or rookie QBs. My point is, if you overuse the restructuring option, you lose flexibility. That is an indisputable fact. The cap may rise, and under normal conditions it will, but you can’t just restructure a large number of contracts each year. This year, as you say, the Titans have flexibility because they have never needed to go heavy on restructures. If they overuse that tool, they will not have the same level of flexibility. It starts to hit the very next season.

I get your point. At least I think I do. I just think you do whatever you need to do to win, if you have to kick the can you kick the can. Our cap is where it is because we are good and have good players. That happens.

A prime example of this occurred during Floyd Reese's tenure at the end of the 2003 season.

I just don’t see JR borrowing on the future. He might, but it doesn’t seem like something he would do. I think some contracts will be re-done, but he isn’t going the $50 mil route. I also think he has more faith in his ability to pick “gems” than I do. This off-season is going to impact his reputation one way or another.

I think if they can sign some impact players and they really believe we can win a SB he will do what he needs to do. A SB keeps him employed for a long time.

It did Jeff Fisher...

Boy that’s the truth. Too long though. Fisher should have been gone before we drafted VY. VY was LJ before it was cool to be a running QB. Had they listened to Mack Brown and left VY alone to be VY we might have won more games for a few years and not caused VY to implode. Fisher was a stubborn SOB.

That and not screw over McNair, had VY played with McNair i truly think we would have seen a different VY

If we had left VY on the draft board we would have won more games. He could not beat a quality defense.

It was definitely cool to have a running QB before VY, mike Vick was a “star”. Always hated that “style”.

Unfortunately, should have never drafted VY. Terrible pick then, would be a terrible pick always. That’s THE pick that ended Jeff fisher. Not only did he clearly not want him, VY was never gonna be good enough to keep the franchise succeeding.

But we on the plus side, he did play more than 4 snaps.
