I just truly wish some of you truly understood how the cap works. It’s clear you don’t.

The Titans will be fine and be able to sign who they need to sign. Whether those moves work out or not is the issue. Money will not be.

Please explain...who gets cut? Restructured? FA signings to replace guys we are cutting?

You can't just say we will be fine when the majority of us aren't cap geeks

We don’t know what the cap is going to be yet. But already it’s doom and gloom. We can free up as much cap room as we need in order to sign who we need. They aren’t in this Armageddon scenario some are acting like we are in.

That’s my point. Money isn’t the teams problem. It’s talent. It’s signing the right talent for the right scheme. If we were the Saints at $95 million over the rumored cap then I would agree, but we aren’t.

I’m not a cap geek either. I’m just not worried about it. But every year teams seem to find the cap space. But predicting this team is done, can’t win the SB, won’t win the division and should start rebuilding because we don’t have the cap room the Colts have is silly.

That wasnt the minimum from last season... last season the cap was 198million..
usually, each season, the cap goes up around 10 mil.. so if this were a normal season, our cap would be around 208million for 2021-22.

As of right this moment, the NFL has said it wont drop below 180mil.. As of a week ago they were saying it would not drop below 175mil.

So they have raised the minimum of the upcoming season 5mil. There is a very small chance that it wont be decreased and stick around 198mil, but everyone with any knowledge doesnt think so. They are all predicting it goes down this year.
I must still be misunderstanding.

I thought the minimum cap was the amount that each team must spend against the overall cap. In this case, last year the minimum amount each team had to spend (or have against the cap) was 175 mil. It's being determined that number is increasing to 180 mil.

The overall cap on the high side could have been 198.2 mil. That just means every team had to spend between 175 and 198.
For this year, according to that article, it seems as if all teams will have to spend between 180 mil and a yet to be determined amount but to me, it makes no sense to be less than 198.2. might not be 208, but it shouldn't be less.

Having lots of cap room and "winning the off season" doesn't mean success, I agree but the recent hires, specifically DC, little cap unless we cut our most productive players has a few of us nervous, worried, pissed off at JRob whatever....this teams window is not huge and to waste the offensive talent on a sh*t D is not reassuring. Don't kid yourself the Colts will be a problem this year, and who knows what happens in Jax, the right person could help. Is Urban that guy? Don't know.
Houston is a mess.

JRob has his work cut out for him...after the past season and issues like Wilson, he's under scrutiny by some fans. And rightfully so. He has made good moves as well as bad, we'll see how it all shakes out.

I agree with your assessment except for the window. We cant know today what that window is. THill has at least 5 years left. Brown could end up the best WR in the league. It appears to me, and I might be wrong that people are tying our window to Henry. I think that is a mistake. I think this team gets better going forward and the defense isn’t that far off. 1 or 2 players can make a huge difference,

The cap in my estimation is going to be at minimum $200 million. The players union isn’t going to allow a cap to be dropped $20 million. They will borrow the money from the next few years for this season. The Cap going down drastically this season hurts mid range veteran players who make up the bulk in the league.

I get what you are saying but think about it like this...

How many more 2k yard seasons do you think we are getting from Henry?

Then, if Henry had ran for 1500 yards this season (which would still be fantastic) what would our record had been? With that record (even taking just 1 additional loss) how does that change our playoff picture? Taking 2 or more extra losses would have left us out of the playoffs... take away 500 yards from Henry and most likely we would have had 2 or more extra losses.

Next season if Henry runs for 1500 instead of 2k, what does that mean for us?

Hopefully a 5K Thill season and AJ Brown finally breaking that elusive 2K receiving mark.

Hope we keep Brown, not f that up
I agree the D is close, playerwise, its the staff that worries me

How many teams won the SB or went deep in the playoffs with a RB that ran for 2000 yards? I can tell you... 1 the Broncos. Henry running for an extra 500 yards was great for him but I don’t think it would have cost us 2 wins. We need to throw more. Henry got a lot of yards this season after the game was decided, when he was just putting the other team to sleep.

Henry running for about 1500 to 1700 yards is about right in his prime. I think he can do that for a few more years if he stays healthy. He doesn’t take a beating like a lot of RBs do. I think he can have a similar career to Dickerson. I think he has 5 top tier type productive seasons left. He keeps himself is crazy good shape.

The cap is going down to around 183-185mil and that isn't the floor that is the top end number that everyone has to be under.

This is a horrible time to be a mid-level free agent....I just hope that JRob can find the right bargain guys. I think we will see a bunch of summer time FA signings this yr. Guys will try to hold out for the best deal they can get and then finally give in and sign.

I disagree.... what do you base that number on? A feeling? Insider info?

One agent said the expectation is the cap for 2020 will at least remain steady. Another agent said he expected it to touch $200 million. Another was planning for $195 million.

That’s what I’ve been saying. It will be alright. The sun will come up tomorrow.
We will sign JJ Watt and draft a Edge in the first round. Keep our FAs and run it back.

We literally just need to fix our situational defense with more pressure on 3rd downs and we are a legit SB contender.

Not a fan of the term "deep run in the playoffs" because it's subjective to an extent. BUT just for informational purposes:

73 Bills (OJ Simpson) went 9-5 which did not qualify for post season
84 Rams (Dickerson) went 10-6 WC loss to the Giants
97 Lions (Sanders) went 9-7 WC loss to the Bucs
98 Broncos (Davis) went 14-2 SB Champs
03 Ravens (Lewis) went 10-6 WC loss to the Titans
09 Titans (CJ2K) went 13-3 #1 seed, Div loss to Ratbirds
12 Vikings (Peterson) went 10-6 WC loss to GB
20 Titans (BDH) went 11-5 WC loss to Ratbirds

We can probably cover the various reasons why each team lost.
I don't see a RB running for 2K as a bad omen for the team and their success in the post season.
Behind Denver, the next best 2 scenarios are from the Titans (both record wise and playoff distance).

In this brief statement you just made multiple NON absolutes.
1. We sign Watt. Lots of other teams interested.
2. Draft an Edge. I hope so, but JRob has thrown the curve before
3. Keep our FAs. We just discussed cost on another thread and other teams may be interested.
4. Fix our situational D. We just promoted the bonehead that was responsible for the terrible situational D.

Do I need to write IMHO in front of everything I write? Isn’t it implied that it’s an opinion or my guess? Like it is for most of us. Like the guy saying the Cap will be $183 million. He doesn’t know that. He thinks that.

I disagree with you about Bowen, He may turn out to be a disaster. Hope not. But he wasn’t solely responsible for last seasons problems. Injuries and bad free agent signings had more to do with it. He called plays. That’s it. He was also doing 2 jobs as well. Now he can put all his time into developing a defense and a scheme. I think and have always thought it was bad to not have coordinators. Not having a stand alone coordinator did more to hurt last season from a coaching stand point than who the coach was.

He may have been involved in the robbery but it wasn’t his plan. He was just driving the car and didn’t shoot anyone. Let’s see what he does when it’s his plan. It’s all on him now.
