Adoree and Butler need restructured....Watkins? He sucks, is non existent or is hurt...no thanks

Stills? Pass

Marvin Jones would be a good signing but I think he'll sign with LAR
Oh brother, I posted one hypothetical about ways the cap could be worked TO CREATE SPACE FOR PASS RUSHERS!
Now all y’all wanna talk about is that one post and no one has anything interesting to say about EDGE.
This is a thread about improving our EDGE rush, but apparently none of you care about that.

Purely hypothetical riffing. The point is cap space can be freed up by getting creative.

You know what makes a secondary better? Pass rush.

But that doesn’t mean you can have average joes covering WR’s and the pass rush is going to make them good players. Not how it works.

Remember at the start of the year when QB’s were throwing the ball in under 2.5 seconds to a wide open guy? Pass rush ain’t gonna do anything about that.

Relax...Thats what happens when you post actual players names...perhaps say "someone like" not "probably sign" this guy

This thread is about pass rush? You brought up replacing Davis

I do care about the pass rush hence why I've said multiple times it needs fixed...we need to draft a couple of edge...signing just anyone and cutting secondary seems like robbing Peter to pay Paul.. especially Butler who was our most consistent DB

We’re going to need to free up more cap still to sign a top edge rusher. Cutting Vacarro and Hump alone aren’t going to do it unfortunately and we still need to re-sign Jonnu/Firkser and plenty of WR help. It’s a tough spot but I’m fairly confident that Butler or Adoree will get the axe (hopefully traded for a decent pick) with Fulton and Borders in the wings. I could be wrong of course. Finding legitimate pass rush help without much cap space is JROB biggest challenge yet.

Perhaps a better tack would be to set the parameters that these posts assume the steps to gain more cap space are taken. All things being equal, how do you improve the pass rush?

I think it will be primarily handled through the draft. I am betting we draft a IDL and an Edge in the first two rounds. Hard to see us going over the top with a FA. I am more than tired of the way we have done it so far with Wake, Clowney, and Sleazy.

By the way, The Packers just freed up 8.3 mil on Bakhitiari’s contract restructure, time to get TL on the phone and free up some edge money.

Restructuring is great. But that is no guarantee that players will agree.

We might need to cut some people, but we aren't going to be very good if we let half our starters go to sign Matthew Judon.

There is no guarantee that we can sign anybody in free agency. And there is definitely no guarantee that we can sign them "for cheap".

There is no guarantee that our impact free agents will be good. None of the guys you named outside maybe Watt are game changers. What happens if we sign Judon for a Tre Flowers deal and he gets 6 sacks? What happens when we let CD walk and sign Marvin Jones and he doesn't block as well and catches 30 balls?

So what I am taking from this is there are no guarantees in life.

I don’t think you’re understanding that if you cut one or both (as you’re suggesting) of those guys you’ve got to turn around and use that money you’re saving to replace them. It literally makes no sense to do that.

I’m sure JRob will restructure Lewan, Tannehill, and maybe Henry too. Packers just did it with their LT and created over $8 million in cap space with one player.

Right now, we don’t know what the cap will be. 185 mill is being speculated about, but I have read elsewhere they might keep it right where it is and borrow from the next years space—so just not raise it as much next year. That makes a ton of sense. Spread the loss due to Covid over multiple years. That would give us more room to maneuver.

My plan has been draft a guy at 22. Theyre cheaper than FAs and you get them for an extra year at a fair rate.

That fixes our pass rush issue for 2021

Not the first time I've brought this up, but the c**ks***ers that run the NFL have zero business LOWERING the cap. The NFL made billions despite the lack of crowds, they have the money to keep the cap the same at a minimum. Lowering the cap in any way is a total BS move.

That said,
Another thread regarding secondary and it seems pretty damn unanimous that Vaccaro is out. Thanks for the play, but a Hooker is cheaper and probably isn't a big step down, plus he still has STDs (Special Teams Demand).

This cutting Butler idea is just bad. Best defensive guy. Shouldn't even be considering cutting him. Restructure, maybe if possible, but that "best D player" part probably means he keeps his contract.

AJ25, if he can't be re-signed for cheaper, he's gotta go. Re-sign King is better spent money to me. Again, IF 1 has to go.

Don't waste money on Clowney.
Try to get a FA pass rusher, even if the absolute best one is not available. I'll take a "lower tier" FA to add in the mix with the guy(s) that get drafted. The draft will be cheap and maybe get 2-3 pass rushers.

They absolutely made money this year, less than they would have with full stadiums, but they did generate tv revenue which is the lion’s share of their money. Here’s another wrinkle, they are lowering the cap for next season when revenue should be back on track AND new tv deals on the horizon.

NFLPA should have a problem with the idea of the Cap dropping then.
If the cap lowers, the current FA class is going to feel it with smaller contracts or no contract.

If a player is asking for a comparable contract to like players of the same position, a smaller cap will either put a limit on that to where they have to accept a lesser contract OR they're asking price will just be too high, and no one can sign them.

Owners being cheap skates.

You honestly think one late first round edge rusher “fixes or pass rush issue for 2021”?! Haha. You must be joking.
