Titans Talk - Home for all things Tennessee Titans

Here’s the other thing, people don’t trust the scouting staff to pick a later round pick but also think tanking will result in a well scouted early round pick.

you play to win the game and that’s what Tennessee should do each and every single week under all conditions with any players on the field. any decision to do otherwise should result in firings of the coaching staff.

so glad that fans aren’t coaches, GMs, or owners.

I'd like to get a legit QB sooner than later, Tammy has been bad in 3 straight playoffs not just last year's 3 int game. I'd go after a guy like Minshew as a bridge and get a QB this up coming draft. Tammy is done.

Amen brother!

Tammy is twice the QB Minshew is. There is a reason Minshew is a back up QB. Let's retool this OL, roll with Tammy through next year, and then look for a replacement if viable. It would be good if we can retool his contract to better our situation.

Would you trade Simmons to the Bears in order to draft one of the top 2 qbs this yr…. Or would you trade him to a team to get extra draft capital for 2024?

just cause T17 it cuttable in 24 dont mean he should be cut IMO

I don’t understand those of you talking about intentionally tanking. That’s moronic.

You guys talk like there is no hope to just get things back on track building around our core pieces? Philly retooled with only one down season in 2020. KC never took a step back while cultivating Mahomes under Alex Smith.

We need to fix the Oline for sure and WRs after losing AJ. Other than that, this team when healthy can compete. We were 7-3 with the weakest roster we’ve had in the Jrob/Vrabel era and before pretty much every starter went on IR. To just “blow up” everything for sake of blowing things up is flat out stupid.

We can be back on track in one offseason with the right moves. And a good draft.

No doubt. Everyone seems to think it’s easy to just go get a competent starting caliber QB. We should keep Tanny until we find a BETTER replacement or draft a potential replacement that might actually have a shot at being the guy.

I would definitely take Minshew as a backup. We haven’t had a real backup since Tanny was the backup.

From what I’ve seem so far from Willis, he can go packing. I wouldn’t even consider him a good backup option going forward. He should be bagging groceries somewhere. Not playing QB in the NFL.

Start the hunt for a QB? Sure. Cut tanne? Nah. Even if Willis looked like an NFL QB you still keep tanne. The 9ers kept Jimmy g around even though they wanted Trey to take over. Chiefs with Alex Smith. Etc.

Cunningham, Dupree, Lewan, woods, probably amongst others should all be gone though imo.

Negative! Simmons is an elite player! You don’t trade them away! You sign them if you want to win. AJ aside, he asked to leave- he did.

Yes. Simmons and no QB doesn't win anything. A great QB and no Simmons probably also doesn't win anything but gives you a chance. The single most valuable thing you can have in the NFL is a great Qb on a rookie deal. Will Stroud or young be great? Idk but you take that gamble if you can.

Either way it's a moot point cause no way the bears make that trade

And that's why we are stuck in mediocracy. Y'all just want to be relevant, have the talking heads talking, lose your wildcard match up year after year. You said it yourself Jags did it Colts too, they got/getting their guy it works. Injuries hampered Luck, Texans didn't expect Watson to be a perv Lawrence starting to look legit. But no no let's roll with a 35 year old Tanny who's ankles got destroyed this year. Or better yet let's pick up another retread like Bridgewater next year. 2023-2024 is the perfect storm to tank with all the money coming our way as we shed these awful contacts, we can rebuild our OL and plug some holes on defense. Also these dudes making millions to play you think they really give a shit about the "toxic" culture of tanking please. Taking the year to tank is a super soft rebuild, you keep Tanny or add another vet you take the chance of doing nothing, being middle of the pack. Facts are facts. You need a franchise QB to win it all. Tanny showed us this, still lost with a 2k rb and a top 5 D. Who didn't show up? The QB.

Top 5 D? When?

Agree on Simmons. AJ asked for trade because JRob didn't/wouldn't/couldn't pay him market. It was a terrible decision by JRob and probably did in part cost him his job.

Keep Tanne with a restructure. Willis is cheap he'll have to do but he gets the nod if Tanne won't restructure. Buh bye Lewan, Dupree. Cunningham has to restructure or buh bye. Keep Simmons/Autry.

We MUST hit on our draft picks. No more fliers on injured players with "high ceilings". Still makes me mad 'cause JRob was all about bringing in "lunch pail, hard nosed football minded players". He got SO far away with that in draft and FA.

Downing must go. The O regressed pre-injury. Vrabel will have an entire off-season to find a replacement. Insane to keep him around and expect different results. Promote the "passing coordinator" or anything get him out.

I hate to say it but if someone offers a 2nd round, be time to let Henry move on to a team in contention next near. He deserves the chance. He should be a HOFer, but he'll be in 1st try in if he can get a ring. He deserves it. He's a great locker room presence, but he won't have much chance to do anything for us next year as we re-tool the OL.

Willis does not deserve “the nod” nor is he NFL ready in any sense of the word. If he starts next year the season will be even worse than this year. If Tannehill doesn’t restructure, or need to depending on who gets released, then we need another bridge guy to hold things together.

This is almost entirely wrong and completely missed my point.

I even posted that my comment was sarcastic that it worked for any of the other teams in the division. Expand that to the rest of the league, tanking for a QB doesnt work. Competing for relevancy has nothing to do with aiming for a crap season for a chance to not have another series of crap seasons.
Tennessee failed with this a couple times as well, VY, Mariota, you could argue Locker but at least he was #11.

Next, you DO NOT NEED a “franchise QB” (whatever that is) to win a SB. THill playing like s**t during the div game, doesn’t mean the titans weren’t good enough to win it all. They beat 3 or the 4 teams in the championship games.
That overlooks that the Rams just won with a decent QB (far from great. Maybe fits whatever a “franchise QB is) and DEFENSE.

And you’re definitely mixing up seasons. In 202 when He ru reached 2K, the D was not top 5. They may have broke records on 3rd down D ineptitude. In 2019, the D was easily top 5, THill was the QB playing at a high level, and Henry had his first real breakout full season. Titans were 1 half away from the SB.

Bottom line, tanking doesn’t work, has no more chance of getting a “franchise QB” than a different draft spot and causes teams multiple season set backs at the bottom of the league more than it results in finding the right QB.

.
I like the idea of the lunch pail kind of guys considering the style of football Tennessee operates with but he definitely overlooked the part about being healthy lunch pail guys, They can’t play tough hard nosed football from the sidelines. Farley is equally as bad a pick as Wilson at this time, just less embarrassing off the field.
