Titans Talk - Home for all things Tennessee Titans

Point being is that we've already discussed this when it comes to our terrible rookie class..

Why bring this out after a blowout win against the Colts?

We talk about this terrible rookie draft class week after week.

Once again 82 drunk (to get the cult following) when I'm not drunk. Just asking a true question.

When was the last thread about this?

Lets look at the positives.

1) Isaiah Wilson. He's shown the calm under pressure to not jump from a balcony, the confidence and aggression and fearlessness to do donuts in the middle of a downtown intersection after having a few beers, and the resilience to survive double Covid. If he can harness all that, he can be special.

2) Kristian Fulton. More sacks than Clowney, more interceptions than Byard, COVID survivor.

3) Darrynton Evans. Had a sweet 9 yard run. Has 21 times as many rush yards as Jonnu.

5) Larrell Murchison. Has as many tackles as Isaiah Mack and Teair Tart combined.

7) Cole McDonald. Hasn't bothered anyone on the team all season.

7) Chris Jackson. More TFL's than Rashaan Evans. Most productive CB named Jackson on the team in 2020.

The 2020 Titans rookies have reached new levels of suck.

@Fry,@Thaddeus43 and I were discussing this topic in the box the other day. This group really is that bad.

It is the worst I can remeber in 28 years of being a fan. The next closest would be 1994. Thankfully, a couple guys in that group went on to be solid starters. Hopefully the 2020 group can salvage something.

Consider this:
  • On offense, the two rookies with the most snaps are UFA, and not good
  • One of them is an undersized C
  • Meanwhile, the first round OT sits, despite multiple injuries to his position group
  • On defense the rookie with the most snaps is a 7th rounder who is nothing special
  • Next is the 2nd round CB who has sucked

And it is not like FA has been any better

...and in that brain of yours that has you thinking about this after the last 2 weeks, not just today’s game or with the Titans the current #3 seed and sitting at 8-3 with a very favorable schedule to finish you don’t think COVID had an impact on that? No minicamps no OTAs. No impact at all?

I know I mentioned it weeks ago and got roasted for saying that. Everyone said it was too early to call it, but right now it’s not much of a contribution from the rookies.

What are you trying to say here? That this is not the worst rookie performance the Titans have had because the team is doing pretty good and because of Covid? How does that work?

In that case, which year had a worse rookie performance?

Also, if covid had an "impact" how come other teams have been getting strong performances from rookies?

Apparently some people think the rookies cannot be considered bad because the team is in first place and covid lol.

The season isn’t over. I think we will see contributions from pour rookies, but my point with the fact we are in 1st place is that they weren’t needed.

Please List the teams that are getting strong performances from their entire rookie class please. Then please explain what your overall point is.

You never answered this question

The point is, this group of rookies has been bad, probably worst in franchise history.

You think the rookies are "not needed." We have had two OT go down with season ending injuries and you actually think the first round OT has not been needed. Missing one of the starting CBs but the second round CB is not needed lol. This is what you are saying.

Teams getting production out of rookies (which you think does not exist). I will list a few:
- Jags, one of the top rushers in the league is a rookie. He is just one rookie doing well. But the team sucks so...
- Chiefs: who are better than the Titans. Leading rusher is a rookie. Other than their third round pick, their draft has produced more than Titans picks.
- Saints: Even with only 4 draft picks they are getting production. They have a starting C and a solid rotational TE out of the group.
- Seattle: also a good team, picking low. They got a starting OL and some defensive contributors.
- PIT: no first rounder and better than the Titans. They got a good WR, a backup OL who started some games and a rotation LB.

There are more, but I mostly focused on good teams.

Now, answer my question. In which years did the Titans have a group with a worse performance. Since that is the original point.

....but more seriously, I'm not sure what the team really expected this year from our class.

- Wilson. He's super young and we went into the season with Lewan and Kelly. I'm not sure we drafted him with the idea of making an impact this year. Of course it would have been nice to get help from him given the injuries on the line.

- Fulton. This is the disappointing one. He got beat out by a 7th rounder and Borders has really stepped up. He really needs a camp, but I'm a little worried.

- Evans. He looked good. He just can't stay healthy. And Foreman and McNichols have had their moments.

- Murchison. I think he is doing about what we should have expected.

- Jackson. Any contribution from a 7th rounder is a bonus.

I would say Fulton being hurt so early left the door open for Jackson. The door should have been closed for Jackson. Fulton has shown flashes and I expect he will gain consistency when afforded more time in practice and on the field. Evans came back too quick from a hammy and obviously it wasn’t ready to be tested, he will be an asset with his speed. I agree about Murchison based on where we took him. Unfortunately, Wilson shades this whole class with his lack of meaningful participation and underwhelming sense of dedication.

That's the biggest disappointment
If this was the Detroit Lions, then you should be worried of your first round picks....but this is the Titans a super bowl contender. We're not in a desperate position to worry if our first round picks don't pan out this year....in fact I'm convinced Vrabel and the upper management had plans for our first round picks to sit and learn Tennessee titans football. You want a spot, earn it through training camp next season. Its ridiculous for us to expect our first year pics, to come in on one the best teams in football and make it righ off the bat. We're the Titans!

Was Fulton hurt before the season? I honestly can't remember.

Jackson was above him week 1.

Yet the Chiefs and Steelers, both better than the Titans, are relying heavily on a rookie at a key position this year.

Sorry if it hurts people's feelings, this years group of rookies has been bad so far. A winning record does not change that.

I like our chances against both teams....The season is just getting started. In fact we should have come out on top against the Steelers. The Chiefs, well they would be the favorites regardless if our first round picks were instead hits....but I still like our chances. That said, I'm sure nobody wants to play the titans in the playoffs....including the Chiefs and the Steelers.

Go back to the draft days threads and you will see me disappointed with every pick. I was not happy at all with this most recent draft. Left a lot of great talent on the table.
