Longer this holds out the more I dont want him. Probably we're the 1s holding and sure he'll fill a hole blocking the run and may get a sack here and there but bare in mind he played along jj watt at Houston and you're only really gonna double 1 or the other. 3 sacks for Seattle last year, Seattle's probably offering the right amount of cash for him watching every week on field and training.
Could see this being a bust if we offer 15 mil+ a year for 3-4 years

I don't really care if we sign Clowney now or not. I was hoping we would re-sign Ryan for continuity on the defense. Not sure if that will happen now with the Jets interested.
Need to sign Henry.

We are not signing Ryan. He is just not in our plans. That seems obvious. And we have signed Henry. I highly doubt a long term deal is coming. I know they say they want to work one out, but everyone says that. Most teams that want to work out a long term deal do so. When you tag an RB his time with the team is not long—two years tops.

Clowney will sign here and we'll run mostly sub packages. Simmons and Jones in the middle. Clowney and Beasley on the ends. Landry, brown, evans at lb. Byard and vaccaro at s. Butler and Jackson at cb. Looks like a goofy 4-3 hybrid.

I want proof Clowney is signing with us.

Yeah I really feel like Clowney is in the plans. More and more. But I'm just not sure how that would like up. I mean Beasley and Landry are our starting OLB. That is guaranteed. Are we going to put Clowney at RDE? So our front would look like...

Landry - Clowney - Jones - Simmons - Beasley

Holy crap. Talk about a pass rush. But isn't Clowney undersized to play inside like that? If that's the plan, maybe we don't take DL in the 1st couple rounds.

Yea I see Clowney as more of a DE

Clowney isn't undersized to play anywhere. He might be listed at 255, but he constantly wrecks double teams and creates havoc wherever he's lined up.

I always find it funny when people talk about a guys height and weight like that somehow makes the player good or bad. Those things can help, but the important qualities in a DL really aren't measurable. They're things like how good a player is at shedding an OL's hand placement, quickness in extremely small spaces, ability to convert another players momentum against them, balance, strength and power, flexibility, and on and on.

Clowney has those more than any other DL in FA or the draft (aside for maybe Chase Young). He could line up in nearly any position on this defense and raise the level of the guys to his left and right significantly.

He drew more double teams (and defeated more) than nearly any player in the league in 2019 for the Seahawks last year, who don't have a JJ Watt on their DL.

Imagine him drawing those double teams and allowing Simmons, Beasely, and Landry to get more 1v1 blocks. Simmons, in particular, may turn into a wrecking ball this season if that happened.

Who do you take out for the 60+% of the tine we are in nickle?

I'd bet money that they have a deal ready and are just trying to get the comp pick at this point. No way they pass on gross-Matos or espensa without knowing that they have Clowney on deck.
That’s what I’m hoping for but I still wanted Epenesa. I know this has been debated plenty already but I think Clowney mostly plays standing up here and Epenesa plays DE
