Sorry don’t want to trade a first round pick for an injury prone corner that’s been inconsistent this season. We’ve wasted enough First and second round picks as it is.

Trading our first round pick and getting back Miami’s 2nd is just dropping a few spots. Not a net negative. Titans trade pick 27-32 and get back 33-39. I’d do it in a heartbeat. Howard would be reenergized here.

Swapping a 1st and 2nd may not be the terrible, but I would wait to see if Miami gets Watson first. That will be a big determining factor on their record this year.

If you assume we finish with the 25th pick or better and Miami finishes as one of the bottom 5 teams, we would potentially only move back 5-12 spots in the draft. That seems like a worthwhile risk for a corner who was an All-Pro just a season ago. But if they get Watson, they're likely to be a .500ish team, and we'd move back potentially 15-20 spots (or more) and that isn't a risk I'd be willing to take.

As the article stated at the end:

Playing a little revisionist history here, that means that the Titans would end up with Julio Jones, Xavien Howard, and a 2nd round pick that is 20 picks higher than where they would normally pick, and all they gave up was a 1st round pick in the 20s or 30s.

I don't know man, everybody is saying Howard is damaged goods with his injuries. He's supposedly not playing well at all...but he has not been very happy with his contract of late also.

Xavien Howard

If the Dolphins will take on a good portion of Howard’s 2021 salary, I don’t hate this. We have 5.8m available and he’s a 12-15m hit. If they make up the difference I think I’d do it. We get the dolphins 2022 2nd in this deal which is nice bc it shouldn’t be much worse than our 1st if all goes according to plan.

I wouldn’t do that either. We are already missing our 2nd next year. There is a reason they think a 3rd would get him.
Hopefully giving up our 1st for their 2nd is only moving back a few picks.
They’re currently the #2 pick and we gonna be #32

And a 2nd in the (hopefully) 40s or 60s the following year. Still a not a bad deal. It would be a great deal if you get the Howard from last year. Just no guarantees.

Would you be motivated if you played for the Dolphins? If you look at Minkah Fitzpatrick, in the two games he played with the phins in 2019, he gave up 3 TDs and a QB rating of 158.3 (granted, it was only two games). After the trade, he only gave up 1 TD the rest of the season and a QB rating of 46.3.

Howard last year only allowed a rating of 48.3. In 5 games this year, he's allowing 111 (for comparison purposes, Rabbit Jenkins is giving a QB rating 128.4). So not horrible, but not great.
Right now he's playing between 62 to 80 snaps per game. That seems like a lot of snaps for the Dolphins D:

Maybe he feels like he has to do too much on a bad defense. That's an excuse we use for Byard when he went from allowing a rating of 69.1 in 2019 to 112.6 last year (I know corners and safeties is not an apples-to-apples comparison but it makes the point). It is very possible/likely that a change of scenery could bring out his best.

It could also be he's not playing at 100% with the knee injury which could be a concern.

Overall, I'm not saying we should do it if that actually even is the realistic trade situation. On paper, yes, no brainer. In real life however, I don't know if Howard is the kind of person we want in the locker room: He's complaining about his contract, when he was made the highest paid corner in the league back in 2019 (he is still ranked 5th), he's been ejected twice from games for fighting, if he really is playing poorly because of lack of motivation it shows bad character, and he is starting to pile up an injury history.

Also, while a team change could be good, we're not exactly a team that has been brining out the best from our free agents recently.

I'll trust JRob on this one.

Interesting note: Kyle Fuller didn't play a snap last night. He must be in Fangio's doghouse. Or sometimes you see this happen near the trade deadline when teams are inquiring.

Can't we trade for a healthy CB who is playing well. We need help, but it sounds like Howard has all kinds of question marks.

And Caleb, it looked like he was being destroyed athletically so far which is supposed to be his forte. So not good. Need help even when he recovers.
