Dodd was character issue.
Wilson character issue.

JRob billed himself as “character drafter”. Missed on high picks. Hit on Conklin but didn’t work out as core player. IMO 1st rounds should be spent on “core” players. CD84?
Or AJ25, but to be contrary, does he make up for it with core players drafted after the first round?
AJ Brown, Henry, Jayon Brown (questionable for core), Byard.

I agree 1sts should be guys that are good enough to stay long term (well passed rookie contract). Sometimes that backfires and I don't necessarily hold injuries against the GM/scouts unless they already had that history.

Every team says that, That isn’t a JRob thing. But how are those guys character issues? I get that Wilson went crazy after he got drafted and handed a bunch of money but there was ONCE AGAIN no proof of that before. Neither with Dodd, Dodd just didn’t want to play football.

Dodd was obviously a mistake. Wilson probably.

I just don’t get the JRob hate. This team has done nothing bust get better with him as GM.

I'm very happy with Jrob, doesn't mean I won't criticize, but honestly with the history of over excitement for mediocre players, teams, almost anything, I would think everyone here is at least someone on Jrob's side. I mean, it's not like even his worst picks are Webster bad.

I don’t disagree. Keep saying JRob slightly above average. Only get triggered when folks irrationally defend Dodd, Wilson and other early picks. And defend JRob on those.

He hit on Henry, AJ and Jayon Brown. Conklin I think he missed- traded a LOT of draft capital for essentially a one contract player.

There isn’t hate. Don’t know how many times I have to type that. JRob just a bit above average. Only get worked up when folks try to rationalize his bad moves. That’s how organizations stay stuck slightly above average and no better.

Barf. If I hear the word “triggered” one more time I’m gonna lose it.

Conklin is an All Pro tackle, on what planet is that a miss?

I would say most if not all of these well above average teams didn’t draft well they just got very lucky at the QB spot. There are good GMs and bad GMS and I think JRob is good, I don’t think there are a bunch of different levels. The Chiefs are average at best without Mahomes. Patriots, Packers, and on and on,,, Texans, Browns of the past, Jags etc etc have bad GMs.

JRob has hit more often in his moves than he has missed. Measured by the things he can control.

I'm all aboard the Joe Tryon hype train at the moment.

Will def need to grab at least one stud pass rusher - someone like Judon - in FA

and follow it back up with 1-2 edge rushers in Draft.

Anything less will be a total failure and injustice.

In regards to acquiring a core player with so much draft capital that was spent on him.
We gave up a 2nd and a 3rd to move up for Conklin who helped us to the AFC championship game.
With the picks we sent Cleveland, they drafted Corey Coleman, Shon Coleman and Deshone Kizer haha. All three were cut or traded while still in their rookie contracts.
We won that trade.

You miss the point. What do we have to show for the picks we spent?

(and to be clear, we traded up a #15 overall pick (1st) #76 overall (3rd) and #176 (6th) to move up to #8 overall with the Browns to take Conklin over Laremy Tunsil. That’s a lot capital. And in regards to your “won the trade” he is CURRENTLY an all pro for the team with whom we traded our draft capital. So uh no we didn’t “win” that trade. )

JRob slightly above average GM. That means he is slightly good. That means he’s hit on just slightly more moves than he’s missed. I don’t hate JRob, don’t think he’s slightly bad or even really bad. What our past GM situation has been has NOTHING to do with JRob’s performance as our current GM. But if his drafting and FA decisions are not SIGNIFICANTLY better this year, our window to contend will slam shut. And both JRob and the Titans beat writers have stated that publicly.

Jesus- with some of these posts I feel like I’m on a foreign planet or speaking another language.

I don’t disagree, but you are kind of saying two things at once with high picks and 1st rounders. Dodd was a 2nd rounder (as was Austin Johnson). I think JR has been about middle of the pack here. But, when he goes “off script” with either 1 year wonders or Character concerns, he tends to have a miss. He needs to stick to his base parameters all the time. His “risks” haven’t really worked out.

yes- but Dodd was a #33 overall pick. technically, a second rounder but let's be honest, VERY close to being first round.

And totally agree. his "early round" projects haven't really worked out as well as we'd like. He has hit on later rounds like Byard and Jayon Brown (if you consider 3rd later).

Hold on there Brutha, this ain’t horseshoes or hand grandes. This is professional grade fan opinion, there ain’t no “close”.

Not for us though is his point.

If you're on the doorstep to losing it, at that moment would you be "triggered"?

So you expect a GM to draft a core player in the first round every single year AND be able to re sign them to a long term contract every single time.

Absolutely ridiculous expectations. Especially with a $30 million QB.

Being outbid for a player isn’t the GM’s fault.

I'm in agreement with you..he's hit on some, missed on some...that makes him good not great imo

He has to be involved in staff hirings as well? He's missed on those

I was just helping explain his point. I don't entirely agree. There's merit in what he's saying but as you pointed out, that can't be the expectation year in, year out.

Personally, I'm fine with Conklin being gone and still playing well. JRob has to make money decisions to keep a good roster together best possible.
If there were ANY good offseason contract moves last season, the move to let Conklin walk and ride with Kelley paid off great.

Unfortunately, that decision also came with a downside cost too. I think JRob only picked Wilson because Kelley was a ? on being talented enough to start for the entire season.
