So having cheaper players is going to help?

Can you honestly say Butler was part of the reason we couldn’t get a 3rd down stop?
Yes I can. Butler was our senior veteran on defense last year. When this team repeatedly needed a stop, we couldn’t get them. Veteran leadership on this defense was sorely needed. With Casey, Ryan and Woodyard gone, Butler did not step up like we needed to get this defense going. Did he play well? Yes. Can we expect him to play that well again. I don’t think so. This defense needs leadership. Watt was possibly gonna fill that role, not sure what the plan is now.

I think most of us are ok with Butler getting cut it was to much money. But when the cap savings are the same for Butler and Jackson, I just cannot see Jackson being better or even equal to Butler.

I would be ok if they cut Jackson next and free up 10 more million. Post earlier, said that Jackson was a difference maker before the injury. I must have missed that. He has never been a difference maker, he is fast (to me does not play as fast as he runs in shorts, he is not physical, not a good tackler, does not int the football ( I think he has 2 in his career), he cannot field a punt.

Butler didn’t step up as a leader, according to you? You have inside information he didn’t step up as a leader?

Is he supposed to rah rah an average player into an all pro? Lol

The Titans are doing what they need to do to keep the offense intact they're going to revamp the entire defense and I'm okay with that.

Well, I hope the money is spent well. We just down graded in the secondary in the effort to improve somewhere else.

Butler was easily the Titans best DB last year and comparable around the league among some of the best. 31 is just a number if you’re still playing among the best, who cares. DBs don’t have the magic drop off after 30 like RB supposedly do.

Re-sign King.
Outside has to be Fulton and ??? currently. Maybe AJ25 is the other. Not excited about that combo in the slightest.

Except that he is 25 years old. I don’t think you just give up on them. He is a very good player, He is also $5 million cheaper than Butler. Who would you replace him with? Butler can be replaced. You can’t cut them both.

Pass rush fixes all this.

Not a surprising move at all. Butler's cap hit was too high for a Titans team that will need all the cap room it can get. It sucks that he was arguably the best defensive player on the team last season though.

Too many people on this board acted like a restructure was going to happen.

With Butler’s mentality, I don’t think he’s going to want to come back here lol. He’s got a chip on his shoulder I’m sure. Not often you have your best season and get released.
We cut logan ryan after his best season too. And he killed it last year!!

Agree ...Jackson is not a difference maker or leader...hell we don't even use him as a multi position "weapon" like he was billed pre draft..Butler may not have stepped up in a leadership role but he made plays

The way Butler's contract was structured, it looks like this was always the plan. Many on here noted that way back when we signed him.

I disagree we cut him after his best year. His best year was his first year here. You could tell he lost a step his last season here. He was exposed when he had to play outside after the Butler injury.

After Breon Borders high quality play starting 5 games this year, I’d imagine he’ll also be in the mix with Adoree, Fulton and whoever else we bring in.

The point is either our line or defensive backs will need to be elite to advance against Kansas City's train station. Butler doesn't qualify. We've got to push the envelope otherwise hope for a couple of mistakes. It's not a fun place to be, but in the AFC that is where we are all at.

KC is $30 million over the cap currently. Mahomes isn’t on a rookie deal anymore so that team will look a lot different the next few years.

Jackson is not and probably won’t be a big int guy, but he is usually a double digit pass defended guy and allows a low completion percentage.
