Of course he’s overrated. He can’t be underrated with all the hype. He is a very good writer, though.
I disagree. For the most part he is a really bad writer.... Look at all he has written and almost every book is trash...

He made his name by killing what seemed to be a main character. That is the only thing that seperates him from anyone else...

Pre-ASoIaF... every book was trash...

ASoIaF.... GoT.... 2/3rds of the book was trash... the only thing good was Bran getting tossed in the beginning and Ned at the end. The rest was boring.

2nd book... Good book from start to finish...

3rd book... 2/3rds was good. (now we have a total of 2 good books in his entire career).

4th book... TRASH

5th book... TRASH

now he is stuck because he foreshadowed and prophecied so much that the TV show has spoiled and the book readers have complained about how bad it is and how GRRM is going to write it so much better... Problem is, he can't write it differently because he already foreshadowed and prophecied everything and he is stuck.

All other books he has been a part of during the ASoIaF years outside of ASoIaF are trash...

The guy made millions because he killed a main character, that is his only hook. His actual writing sucks... Unless you like 100s of pages describing wildling armor, food dishes, quotes of "the night is dark and full of terror" (1 million times. etc.

Wow! You have some serious feelings. Who do you consider to be good writers?

The greatest writer who ever lived wrote under the name Robert Jordan. It is high, epic fantasy which some people cannot wrap themselves in to, but if you can, it is as great as it gets. Amazon will start filming in September. I hope it lives up to it...
The 4th book in the series is the best book ever written.

When Jordan began writing The Wheel of Time fantasy was considered to be one thing and one thing only, Tolkien. If what you were writing did not in some way reflect Tolkien, you wouldn't be published. In the first book you can easily see the similarities, but it doesn't take long for him to move far away from it, once he was signed and began writing what he wanted.

So much of what is written in fantasy now is inspired by Jordan, including GRRM.
Even the prologues were something Jordan made incredibly popular. In fact that is what I tell people, read the prologue of Eye of the World (first book) and if you like it, you will like the series. Even if the first book or two seems abit YA and Tolkienish because the prologue is the type of reading the rest of the series will be.

Oh and because that was so long...

Robert Jordan was a physicist and a Vietnam vet.. and his writing excels in both categories... the unbelievably best battle scenes are written by Jordan.

If you like Cornwell (Last Kingdom and many others) battle scenes, then Jordan is going to blow your socks off...

Every battle is written differently and they are all freaking unreal incredible.
One of my favorites doesn't show one actual battle scene. The entire passage is during the lulls. The "whew, I cant believe we survived that" and "oh damn, another enemy battallion is coming around the hill, this is what we are going to do". And it is incredible.

Every battle has it's own personality.

I understand why you don’t like GRRM now. I read the first 6 books of Wheel and had to quit because everything became so convoluted. I loved the first two books, but the next four felt like I was just reading to get through. No way I could get though all 14(?). To each his own.

Do you disagree with me on how I rated GRRMs books? Outside of the GoT series have you read any GRRM that you consider good? In the GoT series, did you think Feast and Dance were good books, with the endless amount of trivial descriptions with very little plot advancement?

The “trash” rating, yes I disagree. But overall, I agree. Feast was my least favorite. However, I enjoy descriptive writing and character development, so I look at 4&5 as more of a slow burn. I haven’t read any other GRRM books because the subject matter doesn’t seem very interesting to me.

yeah, in the last episode that Professor was explaining how far reaching the devastation would be if the tanks weren't drained.. like jesus Christ, unfathomable

Yeah, would have spread all the the heaviest populated part of the USSR and most of Northern Europe. Those guys who died are major heroes, like next level heroes.

And how about that elephant foot. It is still generating heat over 30 years later lol

The site is safe to tour now, as long as you do not go to the wrong place (need a guide) or stay too long.

That would be something to see

what is the "elephant foot" and why is that guy right next to it?

and I think COD4 Ghillie mission is about as close as I'd want to get

He is not actually next to it. He had to stand around the corner and use an angled mirror to get a picture of it. That is his reflection, not him next to it.

The elephant's foot is a bunch of dense, molten, radioactive material that oozed out and fell to the basement, next to a post. making it look like an elephant foot.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Elephant's_Foot

The Elephant's Foot had penetrated through at least 2 m (6 ft 7 in) of concrete to get to its current location.[2
