Titans Talk - Home for all things Tennessee Titans

This isn't 1994. F* the rb position. And if you're a 2016 gm thinking that's your plan.... God. No.

I knew Derrick Henry was garbage. Knew he'd bust. But I never imagined he'd be our bust.

newsflash - he aint 'busted' yet

you may not like to watch the 2016 Titans...

IF they could actually do what they want I will enjoy it. But until I see a power run game impose their will on the visiting opponent I will be skeptical on MMs ability to execute that gameplan

He's going to bust.

He's simply not good. Does nothing at all that's going to keep him from busting.

And he's the easiest bust call since JaMarcus.

Nah fam. Our OL wasn't that great last year. He's going to pound defenses. Just like what Mularkey wants. I don't like going RB in the 2nd round but I'll never disagree with going with a Heisman winner. He'll take over next year.

I'm still scratching my head on this one. Thinking out loud here.

Murray is 28. He has an injury history. Maybe the Titans feel he's only needs 15-18 touches a game to be most effective. Last year, he averaged 13 per game. In '13, he averaged 15. Only in '14 did he stay healthy enough to 24.5 carries a game.

For what he's being paid, you'd expect to see 350+ carries next season but that's probably not realistic.

So let's say Trader Jon thinks he's a 15-18 touches per game RB at this point in his career.

Last year, the Titans ran the ball 313 times between five RBs. Break that down per game and that equals 19.5 carries per game. Mularkey probably wants to run the ball closer to 25 times per game with his RBs if he can keep games close enough.

If 25 carries is the goal, Henry can expect to see the ball 10-12 snaps a game for the next couple of seasons (assuming both stay healthy and the carries are only split between those two).

As much as I would love to see 25 carries by Titans RBs every game next season, I am not optimistic it'll happen. I think at number will be closer to 20 which means Henry sees the ball a couple of series per game and in certain short yardage/goal line packages.

I can't see Robinson making this pick with needs at CB unless he thinks Henry's role is going to be much bigger than what I've laid out here. And, if that's the case, then you have to wonder how wise it was to sign Murray to this deal:

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the revised four-year deal has a base value of $25.5 million, with $12.5 million guaranteed. Of that amount, $6 million is fully guaranteed in 2016, and $3 million is fully guaranteed in 2017. The remaining $3.25 million is guaranteed money is guaranteed for injury only at signing, and it converts to a full guarantee on the fifth day of the 2017 league year.

Incentives could push the deal to a maximum value of $33 million. That’s a healthy increase in the $1.5 million in remaining available escalators in Murray’s prior contract.

One thing is for sure, we're going to see the Titans try to fool no one. We're going to run the football.

He gets skinny plenty,,stop your trolling

Coming here to be a whiny tvvat on draft weekend is dw's reason for living.

I seriously think the guy lives under a bridge somewhere muttering curses at pictures of Mel kiper then furiously pleasuring himself to thoughts of his own scouting genius.

And yeah, I'll likely get suspended for this Post. Whatever.

its an easy call to declare EVERY player drafted 100+ as a 'bust' cause very few do much at all. There are how many scrub QBs that float thru a few years in the NFL for every Brady? the 2-3 year NFL shelf life of the Cobbs just is what it is.

BTW this is the third year in a row the Titans have drafted a RB... And they used their 4th round pick to get RB Murray...

pathetic

I just don't think much of Murray but he gets the job done so I've kept my feelings on him pretty quiet, but Henry gets me excited about 2016, this kid is on another level with some of the stuff he put on tape. Murray for a 4th and some money was a good move tho, not gonna get a RB like him in the 4th.

Sankey and McCluster have to be gone now tho right?

Not to be an a$$ but we DID NOT GIVE UP A 4TH for Murray. We moved down in the 4th for Murray 13 spots IIRC. We don't have a 4th because of the trades that were made to move around.
We did not give anything up for Murray, we did not give up anything for Murray, we did not give up ANYTHING for Murray.

Except the money

Heisman means nothing. There are other examples of failures too. He's just the first who came to mind
Maybe not, but there is no such thing as a can't miss prospect regardless of who they are. Some people would have you believe that there was and is only 1 player worthy of drafting in this draft... we know who that player is right? Well, just to point this out
Except the money
Meh. Still less than what the Feebles were paying him lmao.

I love the pick...absolutely love it. BIG strong Pound 'em into submission type of back. You morons would have talked sh1t about Eddie also. GREAT PICK.
