Many of Henry's best runs were when he did not have a gaping hole to run. In the Mississippi St. game he went of tackle, bounced wide left and outran the entire defense for a long 65 yard TD.

Gary Danielson was comparing him to Eric Dickerson after that run.

What back do you know has a better stiff arm than this guy?

Then there is the catch and run TD vs Oklahoma in 2014. He runs through that defense like they are a juco team. You can't credit blocking with this play. A poster named Carp said that Henry was worthless in the passing game. Was he worthless on that play? He had a similar catch and run against Ohio State.

In 2014 he took a screen against Florida on a 3rd and 25 and got 29 yards.

Been checking out more Henry lately to understand exactly what we got.

Vs Wisconsin- primarily zone.

Vs Florida- primarily Power.

These two games are strong indications of the two styles for him. He excels in the zone IMO. Allows him to threaten and stretch the defense east and west while using his feet to set up defenders. Giving his lineman the advantage to sweep the edge defenders out of the way while he cuts back into the hole HE creates with the deception.

In power- he struggles more because he still wants to set up defenders. Sometimes he doesn't wait for his lead block to develop or out runs him. Can become impatient.

He finds small creases in both formats however and gets skinny in the hole. His absolute BEST attribute is his ability to get his big body going forward after flowing and waiting for the holes to develop. He sees those with anticipation and attacks very well.

Maybe my Titan Beer goggles are on but I'm decently impressed with his Alabama film after breaking down each style. Hope we use him in zone schemes more often tho. Allows him an advantage that Power doesn't

I'm talking size and style...CJ had 4.24 speed Henry has 4.54 so not sure that's a good comparison

Yea CJ had all world speed. Huge difference. There's a lot of EG in DH.

However there's not a back in the league rn like DH. Blount similar but more lateral quickness and stronger at the POA.

Henry is a weird combination of size and speed for the position. High variance runs won't be effective for him, in a power scheme he doesn't have the lateral ability to bounce it outside and play outside the X's and O's.

In a zone scheme he works defenders with speed at the POA, angling the run and forcing the play side edge defender to slide outside and defend wider than they would like. Opening up small creases for him to attack.

He can get skinny, he can slide thru smaller holes than you'd expect as well as break trough arm tackles like nothing. Power inside the hole is good enough at the next level.

Once past the LOS his speed and subtle moves makes him more of a speed back- but then he crushes a DB with his stiff arm and you see his strength.

Like I said weird combo. Scheme for him is paramount

I agree completely, Blount is another good comparison. I'm looking forward to see what he can do.

I've double backed and watched even more Henry- and your takes are so far from the truth. This "gaping" hole theory is bs.

When he did have a good hole it was often set up by him causing the defender to creep in the wrong direction before he cut it back inside

However if we force him to run primarily "power" man to man schemes, it will slow his transition down.

You were watching someone else.

Sorry man.

Also... for everyone that thinks Henry is powerful- is there any video evidence of him dragging a pile? Pushing a pile on goal line, etc?

He runs like a scat-back. Very Lendale White (pro version- not college)

Blount is amazing.

And looked amazing in college.

Henry isn't HALF the athlete that Blount is.
There are lots of arguments for why Derrick Henry might bust. You should maybe pick one of the arguments that isn't objectively disprovable.

You're trying to show DW he's wrong with facts? lol DW gives not one single f*ck about facts or truth. He's just a troll. stop taking him seriously.

He can break tackles but you're correct that he doesn't drag defenders. But he does have more power than your basic 200 lb scat

He's Brandon Jacobs that leans towards the speed side of the game. And his stiff arm could quickly become top 5 in the game
