Titans Talk - Home for all things Tennessee Titans

Boggles my mind that people are finding ways to excuse this.

I can live with a missed FG.

If your butthole hasn't been puckered on every FG attempt and XPA this season, then you haven't been watching the games.

Attempt the FG or just go for it. I trust Tannehill, Henry... hell, I even trust Parkey kicking more than I trust our Pro Bowl PUNTER to pick up 2 yards running. We're lucky that we didn't lose Kern and that the refs called the play dead prematurely.

Vrabes has "gone for it" or tried trick plays soo much that teams are just going to treat it as a regular down forcing Vrabes to kick the field goal or punt.

There's no more guessing. There is a high chance that if its even close the Titans will go for it regardless of place in the game. He's not making these decisions just in later part of the games.

His job literally has him dropping the ball every time he touches it whether to blast one to the ceiling ala punt or place it nicely with laces out as a FG holder.

There is never a time to have him run for the first. Who does Vrabel think he is, Hodges?

Offensive Woes, Where Exactly Is The Problem?

The defense has been beyond words, you get a sense it will continue, but for how long? The offense barely succeeded in winning at home against two teams that had losing records. What about on the road against teams with winning records? Should we be worried?

We've had a couple games to iron out the wrinkles but NOW's the time for Vrabel/Smith/Tannehill to hike it to the next level. It's now or never.

The organization will need to decide where to place blame if the Titans fall below 500. Is it Mariota/Tannehill or the coaching staff or both?

If the problem is isolated to just Mariota then with the tools the Titans have we should easily make the playoffs. However, Mariota has always had winning seasons, yeah he's had some bad games but he's kept our noses above the water line. Tannehill is the starter now but he's yet to have a winning season. For our playoff sake let's hope that changes.

I know this, we need to run smart plays and sustain drives. Henry needs 100 ypg.. We need to raise the bar and score 30-40 points. We need offensive continuity, congruency and consistency.

I believe both Tannehill and Mariota are franchise QBs given the right style offense. If Tannehill can't get it done then it pretty much confirms what most of us Mariota supporters have been saying from the start. Vrabel needs to change his plan of attack or the GM should find someone who will.

One thing is for sure, we cannot afford to come up short and also lose Mariota. If the season looks to end in disaster then I feel the Titans should sign Mariota to a new four year contract.

It's over dude

Outside of the fact these apparent bone head calls get the headlines we should look at the positive. HCs aren't easy to find. Real good ones are almost like finding a franchise QB. So we could easily do worse.

The probabilities of kicking a FG, getting a first down on a fake kick or simply using the offense are not much different. We have a kicker who is about average 40-49 yards (~70%) but he had made three in a row from that distance. Maybe time to miss one. The offense makes about 60% of 4th and 2. Fakes have a slightly higher probability actually and Vrabel said they had the look they wanted. I think they just made the better play and stopped us. The decision wasn't that bad.

I can never agree with this. 1. it didn't work so that proves the case. 2. running your all pro punter is as stupid as it gets.

We are right on track for 8-8 mediocrity with this coaching staff.

Highly recommend listening to MCM podcasts, almost feels like therapy the way they delve into all our issues.

My problem wasn’t the decision to go for it, but the play call. Why on earth would you put the game in the hands of arguably one of the least athletic players on the team to run for a first down?? If you’re gunna go for it, just send the offense back out there. No need to get cute with it.

Kern MVP chants would be louder.
Probably as long as he slides or makes it out of bounds. That hit was entirely unnecessary.
I know I cheer Kern MVP pretty sarcastically. There’s no way a Punter will ever be an MVP and the fact he probably was this team’s MVP for a couple years only goes as a joke to what condition this franchise was in.

All that said, I don’t like putting Kern at risk running but I also think that if you’re going to make a “go for the throat move” you actually use a “go for the throat” offensive play. It’s cheap and weak to try tricking your way to a victory whe your team needs to actually show they can hang with the big boys (not that TB is one).

If you went for it the previous week, the other team has watched tape and recognized that... making it an even lower % play...

But Vrabel isn't going anywhere. His aggressive 4th down calls doesn't even skim the water of the larger problem -- Inconsistency from position coaches at OL and playcalling from the offense as a whole...

I really dont mind the aggressiveness. It is the stupid playcalling that seems to come with it. Lets run Murray this time, I bet they wont see it coming!

I like Vrabes crazy stuff , didn’t agree with it last game but prefer it over the ultra conservative stuff of the past. He gotta chill though .

I agree. i like going for it but why not give it to henry there. Hes gonna get 1 yard there
