The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

very good movie
minimal : violence, sexual content, vulgar language
pace was a little slow
but WOW ! this movie brought out emotions I haven't felt in a long time
simply oozes with charm
very interesting concept, and Pitt delivers it well

I'm going to easily give it an A

Dammit I want a stable system set in place :rable rable rable:

yeah, I'm getting lazy in my old age
but you can score it however you like
is it 90% or 94% ?
and would that be a 9.0 v. 9.4 ?
how do these determination get resolved of .04 / 4% ?

how 'bout a good 'ol
:thumb: :thumb:

but is that 2 out of 2 ? or two out of five stars ?
but they're thumbs, not stars? I only have 2 thumbs

it kind of feels like a film you'd grade academically
hence, the lack of all this confusion

(that doesn't help does it ?) :ha:

and for the polar opposite of Benjamin Button ......
I give you : Max Payne (oh yeah) :hang:
and the title fits it well
it certainly felt like 'pain'
the "marky-mark" curse strikes again

seriously, has he been a lead in a movie that's been worth watching since that one where he throws on that dildo ? what was it? Boogie Nights or something

I liked the Departed (alot), but Wahlberg's character was the hardest to take seriously

LOL...I am watching it as we speak with the wife. Hate to say it, but they should have put more nudity, and violence in this to make it better. I like Marky Mark though! His name is Mark...like mine! Marky Mark is what all the girls used to call me!!!!! LOL......

I just watched "Live Free or Die Hard" and think it is the best action flick I've seen in years. Great plot. Intense action. Maybe the best of the entire "Die Hard" series.

Yeah, I'm about a year behind on watching movies. :)

:thumb::thumb::thumb: 1/2 (out of four possible)

Death Race may be for us borderline retarded, but I turned off my brain and enjoyed it last night. Decent action movie so it gets...uh...6.8 out of 10. Or maybe 68%. Could call it :thumb: :thumb: and a half out of 5 thumbs. Who does 5 thumbs? I'm confused. Where's the star smilies?

its the same mindless, incoherent BS...over, and over, and over again and I think I might lose my mind because of it.

watch these movies:

Slumdog Millionaire, Doubt, Revolutionary Road, Milk, The Reader, The Wrestler, Curious Case of BB, anything that has a plot, really. Character development is a plus.

I'm always reminded of this song when discussing this topic. Though it's obviously written for the music culture it applies just as well to Hollywood today..

MTV Get Off the Air - Dead Kennedys

Fun Fun Fun in the fluffy chair
Flame up the herb
Woof down the beer

Hi
I'm your video DJ
I always talk like I'm wigged out on quaaludes
I wear a satin baseball jacket everywhere I go

My job is to help destroy
What's left of your imagination
By feeding you endless doses
Of sugar-coated mindless garbage

So don't create
Be sedate
Be a vegetable at home
And thwack on that dial
If we have our way even you will believe
This is the future of rock and roll

How far will you go
How low will you stoop
To tranquilize our minds with your sugar-coated swill

You've turned rock and roll rebellion
Into Pat Boone sedation
Making sure nothing's left to the imagination

M.T.V. Get off the
M.T.V. Get off the
M.T.V. Get off the air
Get off the air

See the latest rejects from the muppet show
Wag their t***s and their d***s
As they lip-synch on screen
There's something I don't like
About a band who always smiles
Another tax write-off
For some schmuck who doesn't care

M.T.V. Get off the air
And so it was
Our beloved corporate gods
Claimed they created rock video
Allowing it to sink as low in one year
As commercial TV has in 25
"It's the new frontier," they say
It's wide open, anything can happen
But you've got a lot of nerve
To call yourself a pioneer
When you're too god-damn conservative
To take real chances.

Tin-eared
Graph-paper brained accountants
Instead of music fans
Call all the shots at giant record companies now

The lowest common denominator rules
Forget honesty
Forget creativity
The dumbest buy the mostest
That's the name of the game

But sales are slumping
And no one will say why
Could it be they put out one too many lousy records?!?

M.T.V.-Get off the air!

Most of the time when I watch movies, I just want to be entertained. I dont want something that is going to make me question society or anything else serious. Movies are like an escape from the real world for a lot of people. Just entertainment. Sometimes I like serious movies and sometimes I like dumb violent movies. I am glad they make both.

I see your point. My contention is that film is the purest form of artistry and is being corrupted by the mass media, but to each his own.

Problem is they don't really make both. Hollywood makes a few scant annual offerings outside the realm of dumb. The rest is left to indie cinema.

Escapism doesn't need to equal dumb. Movies are stories on film. Why not tell a better story with interesting characters and clever writing?
Hollywood prefers to continually clone overused ideas and pawn them off as new - see the trailer for "Push" below - do we need more of this tired mumbo jumbo?
