Titans Talk - Home for all things Tennessee Titans

admitting Vrabel responsible for the m*a*s*h units he put on the field is the first step.

Vrabel not the worst HC ever, but he was part of the problem and he, like mularkey, choose to die on the hill of awful yes men staff instead of getting competent coaches
I am really starting to buy into the rumors that Vrabel was hiring his friends and bad coaches because the good coaches would not even consider working for him. The coaching circle really is small, so there has to be plenty of talk between coaches about how it is working for different people at different places. Vrabel's reputation of full control and not allowing coaches under him to do their jobs has to have an impact.

Are you suggesting FO tunnel vision selected these assistant coaches, not Vrabel?

No, I am not denying Vrabel selected cheap skate coordinators after PEES and LAFLEUR (whom he reached out to and brought in as coordinators when he was hired) whether it was to avoid losing coordinators year after after, or to remain the largest voice in the room(s) who knows.

The front office worker side of things has just a heavy a side as refusing to sign offensive linemen we draft that pan out (Conklin, Davis) - figuring he could become GM of the century by low balling other important positions we drafted, and then looking like a 5 year old playing GUESS WHO? during free agency.

If Vrabel selected his position coaches with either of those in mind, he deserved the firing.

If he actually passed on the opportunity to hire better guys because of those options, he deserved to be fired sooner.

I think that also has to do with want for more control but he’s also 70 something. League just looking for but more youth.
Hard to imagine BB and Vrabel close to level respect amount. We know MV is highly respected but that means BB must be like ultra super highly respected.
Revered!

No way Lafleur was a Vrabel get. Guy interviews for our HC position, has no connection to Vrabel and is signed as OC 10 days later. It smells like Vrabel was prompted to hire him.

And Vrabel still had to offer him and Dean Pees the coordinator positions. Jon Robinson wasn't the one who offered them..... So your argument holds no water.

Well it's rather moot at this point saying that, seeing he already is fired.

But on the other side of that hindsight, had it panned out - it would have come across as a Shanahan tree style move -- making more scrubs into forbidden fruit that every dysfunctional franchise wants to try.

Vrabel was most likely told that the FO really liked Lafleur and that he should give him strong consideration for OC. Considering how coaching hires normally happen and especially how Vrabel has done it since, it's extremely unlikely he opted for Lafleur without prompting.

Not sure what track record gives any idea that there was any shanahan tree happening.
Was it Art Smith getting a HC job? Was it Schwartz leaving again for a DC spot (despite being previously established)?
Was it the list of assistant coaches that are clearly succeeding elsewhere like Carter?

he hired Todd downing. Replaced him with internal promotion Tim Kelly.
There doesn’t seem to be any indication, even when it happened, that this was going to be the latter point of your post.

I think a big difference is, those coaches under Shanahan's tree actually LEARN from Shanahan. Can you honestly say you have confidence in Vrabel teaching and making his coaches better? If so, in what areas is he improving them? It certainly isn't offensive schemes.

There is Evidence that Vrabel didn’t make anyone better

there is lots of evidence

Time to let this thread die. Vrabel doesn’t work here any more and has no influence.
No one is forcing you to keep reading

Instead of just trolling, care to give an answer? Maybe state an opinion?
