Titans Talk - Home for all things Tennessee Titans

This actually presents part of the entire argument, subjectivity on definitions.

What is an “elite” QB?
What is a “franchise” QB?
What is a “game manager”?

All terms thrown around so easily in an effort to continue pushing the idea QB is the be all end all.

Edit: another subjective part of this is the lack of patience. People are so quick to label a player (not just QB) without giving enough time to actually grade. Happens often, but currently is the Lawrence grade. He’s got 1 s**t season (excuses of HC aside) and 1 decent season but some have already labeled him as the titans next Manning hurdle to overcome.

We also have AJ brown in Philly. He was paid a s**t ton to perform for 4 years. He had a great season. There’s still more time needed to determine winner/loser of that trade.
In the end whether the QB is elite, franchise or game manager, it's a team sport you need to surround whoever with talent....imo elite or franchise QBs can overcome an average roster, game managers can't.

To your lack of patience point...so why are we quick to dismiss Willis?

I think there’s 2 types of dismiss so far.

1 that says hes never going to be anything, get rid of him now.
1 that says he’s really shown to be crappy. Maybe another year or 2 on the practice squad to maybe show enough to earn backup or a starter position.

Right now, it’s not dismissive to say he’s too far behind the curve to use him as a starter.

Lawrence is clearly good enough to be a starter, but is still a far cry from showing he’s “elite” or even “franchise QB”. Time still has to tell that story. So far, he’s almost as good as Bortles.

We are quick to dismiss Willis because we've watched him play football. The guy sucks. Nothing there to be optimistic about.

Very few teams are lucky enough to get a Mahomes or Allen. Everyone else has to figure out how to win without one.

49rs are steamrolling with Mr Irrelevant, a rookie and literally the last guy picked in the entire draft. Time will tell how far he can get them. But with the right parts, Tanny is better than Mr Irrelevant and is our best option as of right now. Not saying Purdy won’t end up being great in the future. Maybe he will. But right now, today, Tanny is more experienced and a better all around QB. Tanny was the least of our problems this year.

Yet people that do pro football for a living disagree with you

Like who? The talking heads on TV? Do you think they're going to talk about how terrible he is on tv?

Jrob took a chance on him from his college tape...sure... But it's obvious watching him he's not cut out for the NFL.

You either have it or you don't. He's proven he doesn't have it. "Project" QBs don't work in the NFL.

Tannehill wasn't a very good QB this year... hopefully with upgrades at OL and WR he can help us improve overall ..but right now Purdy is playing like we wish Tannehill should have been playing like.

We'll see what this offseason brings...I'm cutting him some slack being on a team that was just as brutal on many levels.

Exception would equal a much smaller percentage, but when it’s close to 30-40% (depending on whatever “elite” means) then it’s not just exception.

that also is dismissive of my earlier point where you are literally using just the SB winner as an example of a team capable of winning the SB.
Every year only one can win, which isn’t even always the best team, but multiple were right on the doorstep (I’d say very capable) but lost in the SB or Conf Champ.

If anything, because of the dominance of Brady, the “elite” QBs are wing only as many as “non-elite” if Brady is taken out.

30-40%? How do you figure?

Nearly every elite QB of last 20 years has at least 1 ring, aside from Rivers. And many of those with rings have at least 2 SB appearances.

QB is by and large the most important position. In all likelihood, you aren't sniffing the SB unless you have one of the top 10 QBs in the league.

Well, 6 / 15 is .40 or 40%.

As explained a little higher up, 6 of the last 15 SB winners were not “elite”.

The only QBs who are not, or haven't been elite (or top 10 anyways) to win the SB are Foles (who won it after Wentz had an MVP season to get them into the playoffs), Flacco, Dilfer, and Johnson. In fact since 1990 those are the only QBs that have won it while not being top 10 QBs. That's 32 years and only 4 QBs.

If you don't have a really good QB, the odds of winning the SB are extremely slim. It's why teams are falling over themselves trying to get a franchise QB. Teams don't give up 3 years worth of 1st round picks to move up and select a DE, CB, OT, or WR. Literally everyone realizes this.

For what it's worth, Cowherd thinks Vrabel will push for us to trade for Rodgers. I don't really think so because his contract is beyond terrible the next few years with really no relief. It's gonna have to be a team with a ton of cap space like Atlanta, NYG, or Las Vegas to reunite with Adams.

What about Tom Brady, he'll be a FA. This year he didn't look great, maybe his personal issues were distracting? He could be decent with a improved OL, WR and OC.
National media is already calling for Tom Brady to the Titans next season

Because he doesnt even resemble an nfl qb. I think he became the first qb to not reach 100 yards in each of his 1st 3 starts. Runs around in circles in the backfield. So inenept they signed a career backul who never actually player to start their last 2 games with the last being “win and in” with a division foe. He may be relatively athletic but he isnt a nfl qb

If that’s how you are looking at it, fine.

But a very glaring neglect of 2015 Broncos. The actual worst season ever of QB play to win a SB. Worse than Dilfer/Banks Ravens.
