This team made a huge mistake with the McNair/Young thing...I think we would have seen a different Young if he sat behind McNair and learned
Young was the Rookie of the Year. His issues were due to his lack of mental capacity or willingness to put in the work to develop his game after year one.

A) I’m suggesting titans fans are already using his college team as a defense to take 51 sacks in a shorter season than the NFL. Me notable difference among how garbage his OL was, is the competition was also not NFL worthy. I hope he knows how to not take sacks, throw the ball away, and most importantly from what I’ve watched on his highlight films in this thread, is he learns to avoid the hits when running. Go ahead and slide, it’s ok.

B) no matter what you or anyone else ranked him before the draft, he’s not a steal until he does something in the NFL, that’s a fact, 100% no argument.

I am not claiming Malik Willis to be a steal or anything yet.

But the whole “hope he knows how to avoid sacks” comment is kinda crazy to me. Have you seen the guy play? He’s elusive as hell. I was not super high on Willis either. I think he has a LONG way to go. His footwork is really really bad and leads to a lot of inconsistencies throwing the football. But if you watch some of the cut ups you will see he is often times running for his life (and doing so successfully). Completely opposite of what we have right now.

This guy is a former NFL QB and does a good job breaking down the film. FWIW, he had him as the top rated QB in this class. He’s made like 6 or 7 videos just on Malik.

I don’t see the McNair comparison at all. McNair was not as elusive as Malik. Malik has legitimate scramble ability. Like can make multiple guys miss in the open field, type stuff. McNair was tough as hell and could run around but wasn’t going to juke a DB.

I think Malik’s ceiling is Deshaun Watson (he’s probably a little more elusive than Watson but I think he runs less in the NFL). But the floor is Cardale Jones. It’s definitely not a given this guy is going to be a star, but he certainly has the talent.

I get it and my comment isn’t that he’s not elusive, but 51 sacks over 14/15 games is a lot and cannot be all on the OL.
I’m also talking about his willingness to take a hit. Not standing in the pocket but when running too, I hate to see the guy get injured just for not willing to slide and play another down.

All scrambling QB's take a lot of sacks. Russell Wilson was given as the example, but that dude takes a million sacks. We hear about how bad the Seahawks line is, but that dude is impossible to block for. I bet they'll get "better" this year. Lamar is one of the leaders in taking sacks. Vick was one of the leaders in taking sacks.

If Malik Willis plays, he'll take a lot of sacks. The hope is that he makes up for it with scrambles for first downs and scrambling guys open and hitting them.

No one has said it’s ALL on the OL. But even if 1/3 of them are (it’s probably more than that)…I mean you wouldn’t be talking about how many sacks he’s taken.

He will have time to learn to throw the ball away and slide to avoid big hits. He’s not playing right away.

In college there is a massive difference in athletic ability, so they can get away with it. He will learn the NFL is different.

He also lacked the brains to learn the playbook
I know a trainer for the Titans and he said it was clear Vince really struggled to read and that defensive players used to point to the board and say, “Hey Vince, what does that say?”. Pretty sad. It was definitely a combination of lack of effort and limited capacity. I don’t think either apply to Willis, but his learning curve is enormous.

Have you ever heard Brady say that he wanted to mentor a backup QB, or Rodgers....the job of the starting QB is to do what it takes to win games now... Tannehill said that hopefully he learns by watching him....I don't want Tanny spending a bunch of extra time trying to teach Willis...Tanny needs to spend his extra time throwing with new guys and breaking down film...it is the QB coaches job to actually teach Willis.

Well, knowing that excellent play would keep Willis on the bench, and knowing how Vrabel feels about team first guys, not his best choice to make that statement. You’re never going to come out looking good in those circumstances.

That is putting team first. He's the starting QB. His job is to go out and win games and be the best he can be...not to make the back up (if he's even the back up) better.

I don't care about Brady or Rodgers...not on the team I watch and cheer for
It's not about mentoring him but being a good teammate..and teaching and mentoring are two different things.
