Also, how would you feel about mentoring the person threatening to take your job?

If you don't be civil to a person you're training... you get wrote up or fired (or in NFL terms - traded - whether for a late draft pick, or for a grand slamwich from Dennys...)

The difference is at Denny's you make like 28.000$ and year. Tanny made his money and he still would get another shot if he lost the starting job on another team.

RT could have said his focus was to get better and make it his mission to get back to the playoffs and beyond, and that along the way help Willis get up to speed on the offense…not basically say Willis is on his own and he wasn't his concern. That is how I took it. We will se if RT can handle the pressure of his potential replacement.

He didn't look real comfortable up there.. especially after the mentoring comment

That isnt what he said though. He even said if he learns from him that would be a great thing. Willis has an OC, a QB coach, a HC, etc etc, Tannehill not wanting to mentor him doesnt leave him on his own. Plus, saying it isnt your job to mentor someone doesnt mean he isnt going to talk with him, answer questions from him, etc etc, it just means he thinks is job to to prepare to be the starting QB.

Well, knowing that excellent play would keep Willis on the bench, and knowing how Vrabel feels about team first guys, not his best choice to make that statement. You’re never going to come out looking good in those circumstances.

Being team first would be working on his game and making sure he comes out and has a better year. This is much ado about nothing IMO.

No one has said it’s ALL on the OL. But even if 1/3 of them are (it’s probably more than that)…I mean you wouldn’t be talking about how many sacks he’s taken.

He will have time to learn to throw the ball away and slide to avoid big hits. He’s not playing right away.

In college there is a massive difference in athletic ability, so they can get away with it. He will learn the NFL is different.

Even in the highlights, there a clear instances where he had a free rusher coming and didn't adjust protection or change the play.

He also doesn't read the field well, especially down the middle of the field. He holds the ball too long a lot.

So yes, his line was garbage. But he takes a lot of blame too.

Yeah… like I said no one is saying it’s all on his OL…

That's what you took from that statement lol?

I said we would get a sandwich from Denny's --- I didn't say we could trade him to Denny's lol, partly because I believe they would deny the trade in fear of him throwing meals to opposing tables...........

Don’t disagree, it just was a bad PR move.
Well people take it as "f that guy, not my job" and I don't think that's really how he meant it. I'm sure Tannehill will help the guy as much as possible but at the end of the day, it's the teams job to get the most out of Willis.

Lol. No people were using the fact of why you would want to train/mentor the person who was going to replace you. I'm saying Tanny made his money, been in the league for years, why would you not help this kid coming into his career in the NFL. That because if you were an asshole you wouldn't.

If you're afraid of someone taking your job, don't give them reason to...the best thing for Tannehill is a little competition...he seems to come across as entitled, well you sh*t the bed.. suck it up and show everyone you are the QB to lead this team...it's on him, hope this is the push he needs

It absolutely falls on the shoulders of the Titans coaching staff and Willis himself. Any team mate should be willing to help any other teammate as best they can. While it’s not RT’s job to get his (possible) replacement ready, he should have thought that through a little more before saying it out loud.

Interesting how Kurt Warner is the most vocal critic of Tanny right now for not volunteering to mentor Malik. If anything that shows that Tanny is right. Warner mentored Marc Bulger in St. Louis and was replaced by him midseason and cut. So Warner went to the Giants and mentored Eli and was again replaced midseason. So Warner went to the Cards and mentored Lienhart and was AGAIN benched for the rookie. Literally everyone Warner mentored took his job. He’s a case study in what NOT to do.
This isn’t the Big Brothers program, this is the NFL.

Again it's called being professional...if you don't want someone taking your job, don't give them reason to... Tannehill had no problem taking Mariota's job....yet Mariota supported Tannehill and was a great teammate after

it's going to show us what Tannehill is truly made of....he comes across as entitled...hope it's the push he needs to be a true leader...not just when we are winning

I think some of you are reading way too much into his comments. It isnt any players job to mentor guys under them. That certainly doesnt mean he cant or wont help him along the way, it just means it isnt what he is getting paid to do. Willis was a 3rd round pick and the 4th player the Titans selected. They dont look at him as a starting QB at this point or they wouldnt have waited so long to draft him. Why would we want the starting QB spending his time mentoring someone else and not working on himself and trying to be the best player he can be?

Then why is Tanny saying the things he's saying? To me it seems Ryan is scared. He knows that his time on the team is in jeopardy if he doesn't perform. Also if you could get a starting caliber QB in the 3rd round on the cheap why take said QB in in the earlier rounds? Either JRob did his homework and had a hunch Willis would drop in the draft or got lucky. All I know is that if Willis can become starter quality in the NFL we just saved a ton of money on cap, being Tanny would be cut, thus extending our Superbowl window more. At the same time we will be able to retain good players like big Jeff, Hooker, and others while also having the flexibility to add more talent to the roster. I'm sure the writing is on the wall for Tanny and the pressure has built up so much he need counseling.

He said it because he was asked as question right? But also, You dont know if Willis is a starting caliber QB or not. He certainly has potential, but when you look across the league, the vast majority of starting QBs are first round picks, not guys that fell several rounds. There are obviously exceptions, Brady, Wilson, Dak, Romo back in the day, and a handful of others, but most of the time when there are guys projected as first round picks and they end up dropping to the 3rd round, we eventually see that there was a reason they fell in the draft. Consider, that of the 16 teams in the AFC, 13 of the projected starting QBs next season were 1st round picks. There # isnt quite as high in the NFC, 10 of 16, but there are also a lot more question marks at QB in the NFC. Hopefully he ends up being great, but there is a reason he dropped and no guarantee at all he is the QB of the future for this team. And dont take that the wrong way, I like him and I like the pick, but lets also just not make it out as we drafted a cant miss prospect in the middle rounds, because that simply isnt the case.
